Calvert Treatment Facility - The Carol M. Porto Treatment Center

Freestanding Chemical Dependency Rehab

The Program
"In Its Own Words"

STATISTICS

Self Description:

"There are two programs: short and long term. Both are state-certified and use the biopsychosocial model. There is an option for work therapy in some cases. Emphasis is on relapse prevention tools and other life skills training to begin healing across all life areas."

Treatment Philosophy:

"Calvert Treatment Facility recognizes alcoholism and addiction to other drugs as a disease with biological, psychological and sociological causes. We also recognize that the treatment must address all three areas to give the best prognosis."

Approach To Dual Diagnosis:

"The treatment team has Masters Degrees in mental health as well as addictions. We are comfortable and enthusiastic about working with those with co-occurring disorders. A consulting psychiatrist is on site at an additional fee. A psychiatric social worker conducts evaluations. For specifically funded patients, there is fully integrated treatment."

Family Program:

"Multi-family group meets weekly for 2.5 hours and involves education and visitation for the first three weeks of the program. Subsequently, treatment is provided for families and significant others in individual counseling a minimum of once a month."

Position On 12 Step Involvement:

"An essential supplement to treatment; there are rare exceptions. Attending meetings builds links in the recovering community and facilitates sponsorship. Once established while in treatment, this is where some of the recovery support will be post-treatment."

Position on Confrontation:

"If necessary, confrontation is used, but gently treating the patient with dignity."

Additional Characteristics:

"Work therapy is available if clients are stablized and would lose their employment by going into residential treatment. For those on work therapy, the treatment program is still residential and intensive, but is offered every evening and on weekends rather then during the day."
